Are you trying to eat healthy, but still struggling with your weight?
One of the most common things I hear from clients is, “I hardly eat anything, but I still can’t lose weight!”
The problem isn’t always how much food we’re eating, but what kinds of foods we’re choosing.
Many foods we consider healthy, such as nuts, dried fruit, granola, cheese, homemade granola or baked goods, are actually quite concentrated in calories. They’re not necessarily bad foods, but eating them throughout the day can provide far more Calories than we realize, without leaving us feeling particularly full.
Meanwhile, foods such as meat, fish, eggs and colourful, fibre-rich vegetables provide essential nutrients, support muscle maintenance, energy production, brain function, reduce inflammation, control blood sugar, and feed our gut microbiome, while helping us full and satisfied.
The goal isn’t to starve yourself or constantly count calories. It’s to nourish your body with foods that naturally help regulate appetite, support healthy blood sugar and metabolism.
I’ve created a simple three-category food chart to help you understand which foods you can enjoy generously, which healthy foods deserve a little more attention to portion sizes, and which foods are best kept as occasional treats.
You might be surprised to discover that some of your favourite “healthy” snacks belong in the middle category!
Remember: Healthy eating isn’t about eating less. It’s about eating more of the foods your body needs! Your body requires adequate nutrients and energy to fuel its metabolism, produce energy, maintain muscle, and brain function. When we consistently undereat, our bodies adapt by conserving energy, which can slow our metabolic rate and make weight loss increasingly difficult. The goal is to nourish your body, not deprive it!
